Why on Earth (sic) do time-travellers like Dr Who and others,never go back to the time of Jesus,Mohammed etc.?

I wonder if it is too controversial for "time-travellers" to visit places and people of great Religious importance? I can see the point with Islam (doh!) but why not Jesus,or Buddha? What was that star in the East??? A tardis,or what? He just isn't BOTHERED!!!
